In May, the Palmetto Bluff Conservancy welcomed renowned birding influencer and artist Isaiah Scott (@ikesbirdinghikes) for a special birding experience at the Bluff. Joined by Conservancy Education and Outreach Manager Aaron Palmieri, Isaiah led guests on a guided Birding Walk through the Bluff’s forests and fields in search of the Lowcountry’s diverse avian species.

As they explored the landscape, participants enjoyed walking alongside Isaiah and Aaron while learning birding techniques, hearing stories from the field, and gaining insight into the habits and habitats of the region’s feathered residents.

A Lowcountry native, Isaiah discovered his passion for birding at age 14. His enthusiasm for ornithology led him to study at Cornell University’s renowned Lab of Ornithology. After graduating in 2025 with a degree in Environment and Sustainability, Isaiah returned to the South to launch his own conservation organization, Rookery & Roots, based in nearby Rincon, Georgia.
Throughout his visit, Isaiah shared a wealth of knowledge and an infectious passion for birds and the ecosystems they depend on. Guests also received a special keepsake: a field guide featuring many of the Bluff’s most common bird species, hand-illustrated by Isaiah himself.

Unique experiences like these are part of life at Palmetto Bluff. Whether searching the woods for an elusive winged resident, monitoring bluebird nesting boxes, or participating in Global Big Day, an annual citizen-science event that encourages birders around the world to document as many species as possible in a single day, there are always new adventures and interests to discover at the Bluff.
