Exploring the Art of Meditative Watercolor: Recapping Our June Artist in Residence, Katie White
The Arts Initiative at Palmetto Bluff had the pleasure of hosting Katie White as our June Artist in Residence. Katie White, a Tampa-based artist known for her meditative approach to watercolor, led a series of transformative classes that invited participants to embrace the joy of painting as a calming and playful process rather than focusing solely on the end result.
Throughout her workshops at FLOW Gallery + Workshop, participants immersed themselves in the therapeutic nature of watercolor, discovering how to use brush and pigment to express emotions and connect with the present moment. Katie White’s guidance emphasized techniques that encouraged relaxation and spontaneity, reminding everyone that art is not just about skill but also about the journey of exploration and self-expression.
Attendees were encouraged to let go of perfectionism and instead embrace watercolor’s fluidity and unpredictability. Each session was designed to foster a supportive environment where creativity flourished freely, and participants felt empowered to unleash their artistic potential.
Reflecting on the experience, many participants shared how the classes provided a much-needed outlet for stress relief and a renewed appreciation for the therapeutic benefits of art. Katie White’s philosophy resonated deeply with everyone, inspiring a newfound passion for watercolor as a medium for relaxation and personal growth.
