Construction Progress on Palmetto Bluff’s New Reversible 9-Hole Golf Course

Written by Palmetto Bluff

Big things have been taking shape on the outskirts of Moreland Forest! Clearing began this past December on the nearly fifty-acre new reversible nine-hole golf course designed by King-Collins Golf. We continue to see major headway each week as development continues and we move closer to our anticipated tee-off date late this year.

Extension of the Inland Waterway

Clearing Completion, February 2023

Once the site was cleared and ready for construction, land planners and course designers extended the popular inland waterway to add an additional experiential element for club members and players to enjoy. By extending the waterway along the course’s perimeter – eventually leading to the future clubhouse – members will be able to cruise right up to these new amenities via Duffy boat.

Following the bend of the inland waterway through Moreland Forest will allow course visitors to be greeted with a picturesque view of the No. Four green where the elevation meets the waterway. The extension of the inland waterway offers residents a whole new perspective of the sporting ground leading up to their tee time.

Recent Milestones

Will Howard, Palmetto Bluff Vice President of Development, recently shared that “installation of the irrigation system main line is nearly complete,” providing irrigation to the tees, greens, and fairways, with the “irrigation pump station scheduled for completion by the end of June to allow grassing to begin in July.”

In the interim, the team is putting the finishing touches on greens complexes – installing drainage, greens mix, and shaping bunkers in preparation for irrigation installation.

With the peak of elevation reaching almost fifty feet – Chris Johnson, Director of Agronomy, is collaborating with the development team to create a scenic dune landscape with a lush, seasonal color palette of native grasses. He explains, “The vision for the native areas is a mixture of open sandy areas blended with low growing sparse vegetation contrasting the tight mowed fairways and greens to create great views and vistas across the course.”

Some selected plant species include Sheep Sorrel, Golden Rod, Black Eye Susan, Love Grass, Lavender Grass, Purple Love Grass, Little Bluestem, Sand Dropseed Grass, and Prairie Junegrass. “The native areas will be established with hydroseeding to blend all species across the course, combined with using erosion-controlling germination mats on the steep slopes.”
