Welcome to another captivating edition of Behind the Bluff, where we delve into the lives of remarkable individuals who contribute to making Palmetto Bluff an exceptional community. In this feature, we shine a spotlight on Andrew Harris, Palmetto Bluff’s Shooting Club Director, who brings his passion for shooting sports to create unforgettable experiences for members and guests.
In this interview, Andrew shares his journey, recounting his deep-rooted passion for shooting, his arrival at Palmetto Bluff, and his profound impact on the Shooting Club.
As the new Director of the Palmetto Bluff Shooting Club, Andrew brings a fresh perspective and commitment to enhancing the sporting experience for all members. His primary responsibilities include growing the club’s participation among Club members, and Montage guests. Andrew aims to achieve this through positive interactions with the dedicated staff and exciting events.
“My goal is to improve the members’ and guests’ experiences continually,” says Andrew. “They want to have fun, be challenged, and enjoy camaraderie with other members and our knowledgeable staff.” With a focus on relationship building and facility improvements, Andrew envisions a dynamic and evolving Shooting Club.
Andrew’s journey to the Palmetto Bluff Shooting Club is rooted in a rich background of hunting and outdoor activities. Growing up in Tucson, Arizona, he was immersed in a culture that valued these pursuits. His path took a pivotal turn after the September 11th, 2001 attacks when he joined the United States Marine Corps. Over a distinguished 22-year career, Andrew developed a passion for leadership and advising, spending significant time in combat and operational roles.
After retiring from the Marines, Andrew settled in Bluffton, SC, and became involved in local veteran support organizations. When the opportunity to lead the Palmetto Bluff Shooting Club arose, it felt like a perfect match. “I realized this would be a job where my experience could add value while fulfilling my goal of being happy and enjoying the next chapter of my life,” Andrew reflects.
Andrew is most excited about making every Palmetto Bluff Shooting Club visit a fun and welcoming experience. He listens to members’ feedback and implements changes to enhance their enjoyment. One notable upcoming event is Beretta Day on Saturday, November 16th, featuring exclusive demonstrations and clinics by Beretta Shooting Team members.
“Our members count on the expertise of our staff, from improving their shooting skills to selecting the best equipment,” Andrew explains. The club is committed to continuous staff development, recently completing a target-setting course with renowned expert Joe Skull.
For Andrew, the joy of his work lies in the people he meets and the stories they share. “I enjoy talking with members and staff, hearing their stories, and getting to know them on a personal level,” he says. Outside of his professional life, Andrew is passionate about his family and enjoys supporting his wife, a dedicated realtor, and watching his three boys grow.
Andrew’s approach to fostering a sense of community at the Shooting Club involves being hands-on and accessible. He values input from long-tenured employees and members and continuously seeks ways to enhance the club’s offerings. Initiatives like Member Monday shoots improve the shooting experience and allow members to relax and socialize in the clubhouse.
Andrew’s passion for shooting, combined with his military background and dedication to excellence, has positioned him as an exceptional leader for the Palmetto Bluff Shooting Club. His expertise and vision have already begun shaping the club into a destination offering much more than shooting facilities. Under his guidance, the Shooting Club is evolving into a place where members and guests can forge lasting memories, connect with like-minded individuals, and experience the thrill of the sporting life.
Stay tuned for more exciting developments and events hosted at the Palmetto Bluff Shooting Club as Andrew continues to shape its future.
