The Juxtaposition of Design

Written by Palmetto Bluff

This home, in the River Road neighborhood of Palmetto Bluff, was designed by KS McRorie Interior Design and built by CS Thomas Construction. The combination and contrast of texture, color, vintage finds, and modern pieces make this home feel comfortable and glamorous all at once.

Complimenting the smooth, natural limestone fireplace and white trim, the living room walls clad with vertical, paint washed pecky cypress lend a cozy vibe to the main sitting area in the home.

The symmetrical built in shelves flanking the fireplace in the living room serve as the perfect space to display local, one-of-a-kind accessories. Items such as vintage cigar molds, rice wine jars and wallpaper roller stamps are just a few of the many collected items throughout the home.

Venerable elements such as hand painted ginger jars and an Oushak antique runner were incorporated in the contemporary kitchen. Crisp white shiplap walls provide a wonderful contrast to the texture of the hand-scraped white oak floors.

This quaint area in the study was created to provide the owners and their guests the opportunity to dine or play a hand of cards while enjoying the beautiful views that the space offers.

A vestibule into the master suite sets the tone for a personalized retreat that highlights the slightly glamorous and the collected, such as the antique wallpaper stamp lamp featured on the mirrored chest. An open and inviting sense of space is created by the reflective quality of the chest.

A cozy chair in the corner of the master suite sits between two windows providing views of the Bluff, allowing for a quiet reprieve (with a cocktail).

The contrast in textures and colors within the ottomans, rug, and bedding are all subtle players in creating the master suite oasis.

The combination of a vintage Turkish rug, antique wooden ladder, and modern light fixture, in contrast to the glamorous pewter tub, provides just the right balance for this “Lowcountry Luxe” Master Bath.

A sitting room creates the perfect spot for guests to converge in the morning for coffee or tea. Custom designed barn doors afford just the right amount of privacy, providing guests a space of their own to relax.
